Saturday, October 22
All Day

The Echo Kiwanis and Desert Arts Council are hosting an Oktoberfest at Echo Ridge Cellars, 551 N. Thielsen Street on October 22. The cost is $15 which includes three coupons (four if purchased in advance), which can be applied toward food, brew, haunted house, or corn maze (half price).

Besides serving brews and food in the evening and providing musical entertainment, the Kiwanis are sponsoring a bouncy house and games in City Park. Gathered Over Time, Echo Station, the City of Echo, and Echo Library will host children’s activities as part of the 3rd annual Scarecrows on Main contest.

Echo Ridge Cellars is the converted granary on the north edge of town. The Oktoberfest will be in the large concrete warehouse next to the Echo Ridge Tasting Room & Event Center. Pendleton’s Rowdy Fix Band will start playing at 6:45 pm. Two local brewers will serve beer: Hermiston Brewing and Pendleton’s Prodigal Son.

A potato sausage, salads and home-made sauerkraut from H & P Café will be served. Alexander’s handmade chocolates will also be available at Echo Ridge.

If you run out of coupons, more will be available for $5 each. Coupons can be used at any of the participating Echo Oktoberfest products or services. You can purchase the tickets in advance at H & P Café, Echo Ridge Cellars, Gathered Over Time, Alexander’s Chocolates, Hermiston Brewing, Prodigal Son, Hermiston Chamber, Hermiston City Hall and from Echo Kiwanis members.

Mike and Tonia Barzee, of H & P Café and Kim and Jay Bales of Echo Ridge Cellars are sponsoring commemorative glassware. Others sponsors include: Banner Bank, Plateau Press, Pepsi, Sherrell Chevrolet, Quail Run Ramos Ranches and Ramos Brothers.

Proceeds will go to maintenance of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. The church is on the National Register of Historic Places and was built in 1913. It is a deconsecrated Catholic Church currently owned by the Fort Henrietta Foundation.

Scarecrows on Main

Saturday, October 22
12:00 pm

October 22 marks the 3rd Annual Scarecrows on Main event. Gathered Over Time, Echo Station, the City of Echo, and Echo Library are sponsoring other Main Street activities all afternoon. Cookies and refreshments will be provided.

Children's Activities
Come and decorate a pumpkin between 2:00 and 5:00 pm free. Sponsored by Gathered Over Time. Brandi from Echo Station will be giving away children’s books until they are all gone. Come and enjoy a cookie too. The Pendleton Center for the Arts Halloween theme rocket project is scheduled between 2:15 and 3:00 pm free. Sponsored by Echo Public Library.

Fill out and return the entry form from the current Echo newsletter. Bring or build your scarecrow for display on Echo’s Main Street from 10:00 am to noon on Saturday October 22. The Scarecrow Central check-in point will be Gathered Over Time at 210 W. Main Street. Your entry must be completed and ready for judging by noon. It can be a sitter or a stander, but if it's a stander make sure it will stand strong (include support). It can be homemade or a rehab'd commercial scarecrow.

Ribbons will be placed by 2:00 pm. Cash prizes will be awarded to Best of Show (one adult and one child) for $50, a trophy for Peoples' Choice plus $25, and Most Fun $25. The judges will also pin ribbons on some other scarecrows of note. We would love to have as many scarecrows as possible stay on display until November. We promise to do our best to look after them, but well... we're not around 24/7 so we can't promise that they will remain perfect.

Be Creative, but nice. The idea is to scare crows not children. If you're taking your scarecrow home on Saturday, don't take it until 5:00 pm. Have fun. Play nice. Scarecrows must be picked up by November 5, 2016 or they will go to Scarecrow heaven, otherwise known as the city dumpster.
